Eid al Adha 2014 is set to be celebrated in the Indian sub continent. The festival will likely be celebrated across India besides Bangladesh and Pakistan tomorrow. With the exclusion of Kerala the Eid will be celebrated by the whole subcontinent on October 6th. Kerala observed and so they took the lead regarding celebration of the Eid. Usually Eid in the state of Kerala and the start of Ramadan in Saudi Arabia and also festivals coincide. But this year not merely it did not celebrate the holiday with Saudi Arabia but also with the remainder of India.
But this really isn’t only Kerala that observed Eid yesterday. There was confusion among a large section of people. The fact that Saudi Arabia observed the Eid two days in advance, many folks believed that Eid will fall on 5th October and many individuals were seen talking about it yesterday.
In the meantime individuals have completed the preparations for Eid. Lamb and other creatures are being offered in a large number in markets. In Delhi’s Jama Masjid bakra (lamb) market a typical lamb’s price has fired to heights that were unheard. It can put a big hole in your pocket, if you’d like a healthy lamb. But most people appear undaunted.
Muslim mohallas in the national capital are full of sheep and beautiful lambs. Some daring folks have even purchased camels too. Someone wrote a couple of days ago that most women instead of discussing their new clothes change the pattern of discussion around the new lambs and sheep they’ve purchased. Individuals buy large number of lambs at sky high priced to make a point or two over their neighbors.
Folks wish to show off their wealth to their neighbors as well as their relatives. But this has never been the spirit of Eid Al Adha. God Almighty called this forfeit (dibhin Adim) or great sacrifice. He was prepared to give up his life, his son’s life and give up everything to please none but the sole God. We have now formed a joke of this pure spirit by making a mockery of it in every way possible. To Allah reaches just your taqwa (fear and love)”.
